It's easy to say our wood moisture meters are accurate, but can we prove it? Well, yes.

Accuracy is a somewhat overused term that others may insert in their marketing materials in the same cavalier manner as "best value" and "highest quality." When Wagner Meters claims superior accuracy, we've got the data to back it up. For instance, a study by the Centre for Timber Technology and Construction that concluded that the Wagner wood moisture meter was "faster, easier to use, and more consistently accurate" than the other resistance meters tested.

When compared against the benchmark "oven-dry" method, the study found that Wagner moisture measurement instrumentation was "more consistent" and had a "smaller error from the oven-dry moisture content" than the other meters tested for determining moisture content in the 12-20% range.

According to Dr. Gene Wengert, a rough rule of thumb is that a 4% moisture content change will cause a 1% shrinkage across the grain thickness and width.
